Hero’s Journey
”Be the hero in your own epic”
from The Hero with a Thousand Faces by J. Campbell
The Hero School aims to inspire its participants to become heroes in their own lives using the tools of performing arts. We combine interactive workshops with experiences in Virtual Reality (VR), creating a playful and exciting platform where we explore questions about heroism and courage. The design has been developed in close collaboration with the target audience, consisting of youth and young adults (ages 12-25) as well as adults with functional variations.
The Hero School model is based on three phases: departure, initiation, and return. Participants describe their usual, ”known” world, then embark on a journey into a new and unknown world through the departure phase. This unknown world represents the initiation and consists of various exercises and experiences. Ultimately, participants return to the known world—the return phase—enriched with newfound knowledge, insights, and strength!
In spring 2020, we are offering the Hero School’s three-day workshop to schools and organizations across Skåne:
The Hero’s Walk, The Hero’s Journey, and The Hero’s Game
Our three-day workshop provides the opportunity to experience the Hero School in its entirety. Meeting repeatedly allows us to create a safe and exciting space where participants are inspired to step up and take on challenges.
The three days are divided into three components, which we call The Hero’s Walk, The Hero’s Journey, and The Hero’s Game. Read more about what we offer here!
The Hero School seeks to explore the concept of heroism both in theory and practice by highlighting the diversity of hero stories among young people. We take a positive outlook on reality and work with archetypal heroes and everyday heroes.
”I don’t think people are searching for the meaning of life as much as they are searching for the feeling of being alive.”
The Hero School is owned by Teater THEATRON. It has been developed in collaboration with Allmänna Arvsfonden and is also run in partnership with ABF Skåne, ABF Malmö, Tolvåkersskolan, Löddeköpinge, Sundsgården, Helsingborg, and Kulturcentrum Skåne, Lund.
”I wish I could stop time, just to take a break from life—like lie down for a month without missing school or anything.”
